Work Continues at the Smithtown Building!

Demolition work has begun at the Smithtown Building! These photos were taken over a two week period during the month of August.



This is a view of the Children's Room. The walls have been stripped of the shelving and the room will be rewired. This will become a Reading Room when the building reopens.

The walls and door at the original Main Entrance to the Library. This will evenually lead to the new Children's Room.


The Circulation Desk was originally located between the two columns on the Main Level. The fiction collection was behind it. The non-fiction collection was located above it.


The main floor; the elevator is located to the right, a small reference office has been demolished and the employee entrance can be seen slightly to the left side of the photo.


The old stairs have been removed.


The second floor has been gutted. This area housed the 900s and Young Adult area.


Metal studs have been placed on the second floor.


Offices have been removed from the Main Level. The glass walls have been removed from the second floor. These areas will now be used for public space.


The Lower Level/Periodicals area awaits demolition.


The wood panelling has been removed from the walls of the old meeting room.


This is a view from the fiction area looking into the audio-visual area. This will become the new Teen Department when the building reopens!
